These services will be provided in both official languages wherever possible. Our Staff Kim Gahan Director My name is Kim Gahan I have 2 children, Travis 16yrs old and Jennah 13Yrs old. I was a stay at home mom for 10 yrs. I supplied as a TA in the public school system for 3 years, until I realized that I wanted to learn more about Autism. I attended some day workshops and met some families looking for help with their children after school and on weekends. This is where I met Danielle Pelletier, I worked under her supervision for 2 years prior to the opening of Autism Intervention Services. I attended the AIT course at UNB and then worked full time at Autism Intervention Services. I have a passion for helping others and I hope that I will be able to assist anyone that will require the services of Autism Connections Fredericton. Melanie Watt Program Coordinator Hi, my name is Melanie Watt. I have one child named Sophie , she is almost 5. She was diagnosed with Autism at 20 months. Since then , I have been a stay at home mom looking after Sophie and taking her to therapy. I did graduate from NBCC Fredericton in 2002, from the Human Services Councillor course. I was hired full time during my practicum placement working with a variety of persons with disabilities including Autism. I did that for 3 yrs until I was injured at work. I have been volunteering and helping out with ACF since the first day I walked into the centre looking for advice and support. I became a Board Member in may 2008 and made many great friends and feel they are apart of my extended family. When the position for Program Coordinator became available I decided to apply. And I was very happy to have received the position. As a parent of an Autistic child and a professional who has worked with special needs individuals and their families , I look forward to putting my knowledge to work at the Centre and helping the members and community in any way that I can. Message from our Chairperson Neil La Croix Good day to everyone. I would like to thank each and every volunteer who has helped at Autism Connections Fredericton for the last two years. I know that I have only been Chair person for a short time during the two years that the Resource Center has been open but do know how much hard work and effort goes into running the office. I know this because I started out as a Parent like most of our clients and then saw the opportunity to help as a volunteer. I was there with everyone when the Center moved from Intervention Services to the new spot at the front of the building. It was not a very far move but took lots of time and determination to get everything set up right for our Friends, Family, Co-workers, and others. To give the people we serve a spot to come and relax, learn and share with us. I welcome everyone who reads this to come by again if you haven't in a while to see the changes. To meet our new staff member. And to share some of the new resource books and toys we have to offer. We are always working on new ways to help persons affected with Autism and if you can find some time to help we would love to talk to you about that too. Thank You Vivienne Sprague Treasurer Dear friends / chers amis, My name is Vivienne Sprague. I’m a new resident of New Brunswick. I arrived couple years ago from France. I currently work for Efficiency NB as the Marketing Coordinator. In the various positions that I held, I interfaced in various ways with the community organizing and implementing promotional and sponsoring events. With this experience, I decided to join the Autism Connections Fredericton’s Executive Board of Directors as the Treasurer. After having graduated with a double diploma in Marketing and International business, I decided to come to Canada. I was deeply touched and surprised by the beauty of the New Brunswick community. I met remarkable individuals in this province and decided to stay and to dedicate my life in helping others. My experience as a Marketing Coordinator for Special Olympics was a stepping stone in my career as it introduced me to the world of autism. I met many talented autistic individuals with exceptional skills at Special Olympics, and it somehow made me realize that I needed to take actions and do whatever I could to provide adequate supports to the unique needs of an autistic child. Indeed, no one should ever feel helpless and suffer isolation. As the Treasurer, I would like to thank you for your donation and for your support. Your donation will help us ensure families affected by autism receive educational and counseling support. The funds will also be directed toward behavioral interventionists, therapeutic activities, adequate equipment and supplies for the center, etc… Every little bit helps. You can make a difference… Julie Pearce Secretary Biography and Picture coming soon... Brenda Comeau Website Administrator Hi everyone, I'm a proud mother of a little boy who has been diagnosed at 20 months old with Autism. We are originally from a little village in the Acadian Peninsula name Val Comeau. We moved here in Fredericton in 2005 knowing we could have the best services for our son right here. In the North of the province was very hard to find help. It's still hard not having any family around. When I found the Autism Connections Fredericton, I have found some support and a little family who I can count on. We try the best we can to support each other, and give back to the community, in the best way we can. We want to help you, as much that we need you! Please come and be part of our family! |
